When strapped for time and you want a delicious nutritious meal, recipe boxes can be a lifesaver. I’ve been using Simply Cook recipe boxes for years. Put them to the test yourself with their £3 offer on a first box!
What is Simply Cook?
Simply Cook is a monthly recipe box that gets delivered to your home containing all the spices, stock and seasoning to make 4 different meals for 2-4 people. The first box is selected on your behalf, with the ability to customise and choose which recipes you want for subsequent boxes.
They say that the average person typically only makes the same 6 meals time and time again. Part of the aim of these boxes is to make it easier for people to try different foods and become more confident and creative in the kitchen – without the hassle of having to visit 20 different shops trying to locate elusive ingredients.
What types of boxes are there?
Simply Cook currently have four recipe boxes available – the Discovery Box, Light box (<600kcal), Gluten Free Box and Vegetarian Box. There is a wide range of recipes and cuisines available from many different countries around the world.
How does it work?
Once you’ve received your box and decided which recipe you want to make, all you need to do is add protein, fresh vegetables, add some staple carbohydrates like rice or pasta and you are well on your way to creating restaurant quality meals.
What’s inside the recipe box?
Each box contains 4 separate sections for each recipe containing 3 little tubs of spices, herb mixtures, curry pastes, stock or meat rubs. Most had a best before date of at least 10 months so you don’t have to use them all up straight away which is handy. They make good presents for foodie friends.
There are also recipe cards to show you how to make each meal, complete with a handy tear off shopping list for what you need to add. If there is a particular ingredient you don’t like it is always possible to substitute. For example I’m not always keen on prawns so I would use chicken instead.
Delicious!! Recipes are easy to follow, taking about half an hour to make each. It was great that only a few ingredients were needed to complete each meal and they weren’t particularly ‘out-there’ ingredients so were easy to locate at the supermarket. I eat a lot of vege normally so adding extra vegetables to meals extend to 3-4 portions.
How much does it cost?
The boxes normally cost £8.99 each, and provide all the spices you need to flavour your meal to restaurant quality. Once you add vege, protein and some carbs each recipe costs less than £4.00 per person which I think is an absolute bargain compared to what you’d spend at a restaurant.
I think these recipe boxes are a great idea for people who are unsure in the kitchen, looking for some new inspiration and wanting to try out new flavours from around the world. A great alternative to a weekend takeaway, this is a cheap, quick and easy way to get delicious restaurant quality meals in the comfort of your own home. Full thumbs up from me.
I purchased my own recipe box for the purpose of this review which represents my own views and opinions. It contains affiliate links. Please see my disclosure policy for more details.
